Background
I hold a PhD in Natural Language Processing from the University of Porto, in which I defended my thesis, "Learning Word Sense Representations from Neural Language Models". My research continued at Cardiff University, where I spent a year as a Research Associate working on various aspects of adapting and applying Language Models for Social Media. My research experience has led to several first-author publications at top venues (ACL, EMNLP, CL, AIJ, +400 citations), including collaborations with Snap Inc.
Prior to my PhD, I founded a VC-backed startup, PepFeed, and developed methods to match retail products to media across the web (reviews, videos, etc.). While trying to keep up with the state-of-the-art, I'm constantly looking for new applications unlocked from each advancement.
I live in sunny Portugal, where I get to spend time with my family.
More details about my professional experience are available on my LinkedIn and CV.
